Its an extra phone I have that I use to download apps that I don't want on my phone. I don't have any data or any kind of connection services on this phone at all, it's just connected to my Wi-Fi. Whenever I try to check for a system update it says, "Can not connect to the system, try again later." Do I need service on the phone in order to be able to update the system?

What phone do you have? Also, is it carrier locked (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint)?

Its the Kyocera Hydro. Yes I know it's from like the Ice Age or even older but like I said it's only a back up phone. It's definitely not locked, Metro PCS was my carrier & it was my personal phone.

I see. Not sure how it works with them but some carriers don't allow you to install updates unless you have an active sim that matches the branding in the phone.

I.e. you have a AT&T LG G4 (carrier unlocked) and you want 6.0. you can only get that if you put an AT&T sim in it.
