Hi new user to android central but not a new user to android.
I currently use a rooted black T-Mobile G1 running SuperE which i think is based android 2.1 and so far i have found this to be the best rom on my phone for stability and everyday use.
I will be switching phones soon though to a different (cheap) android phone like the HTC wildfire unless there is anything new coming out now/soon or anything that is similar to the wildfire.
