Hey all!

I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I switched to Android around April and have been very happy, but am interested in getting my phone more customized as I use (and LOVE) Linux, but am still a newbie.

Just a quick question (I don't know if anyone reads these), but...where do I get started with rooting? I understand what it is and how it works, but I can't seem to find anywhere that tells me where to begin, you know? Every guide, set of directions, etc. seem to be for those "already rooted". Do I install a backup program first, then rollback, then root. Do I root, then backup, then rollback, then mod? I'm just confused as to the order of operations and any help is great help!

Thanks! - D

Welcome to Android Central...
There's guides stickied to the top of the page for each device that should include a How To for rooting. What phone are you using and I'll steer you in the right direction?

Hey Cyber Warrior! Thanks for the welcome. I actually just looked at the guides as you suggested and after a few hours of reading and trying to figure out where step 1 was, I finally got started and managed to root my phone AND install a custom rom.

Thanks for the welcome and I'm so glad to be here. Totally unlocked a brand new world for me using Android. Best discovery ever.
