Hello!

I am Diane, new to Nexus and this forum, but not new to forums, or smart phones.

I currently have and LOVE my PalmPRE, its modded, and overclocked, and customised to the hilt, and I am sorta holding out for HP to either push out some new hardware, OR licence WebOS to other devices.. but I have to admit I do have a wee bit of Phone envy this week as both my husband and son JUST got Nexus S's

Since I am the resident network/puter/phone anything technical guru of the house, I wanted to edu-ma-kate myself on some of the ins and outs of this phone.

My wonderul husband , at times is a lil tech challenged and I try to be there to help him get over some of the bumps on a new device.

I found this fourm, as a sister forum to PreCentral, where I have been a member for 3 years and have learned just tons of awesome info from the very smart people there, hoping this arm of "..central" does me as well for Android

My son, who is not new to Android, is good for finding apps and stuff, but he is also not very technical. I tried to get the SDK and the Java JDK connected to his Nexus to try to enable a screen capture, but had some issues. Mostly finding the drivers that dont seem to be included in the SDK.

I am currently reading thru stuff and trying to get un stumped at the rooting process for this phone, so far still stuck on a few issues

But I'll save that for another time and another post.

Just wanted to join up, and say HI to a new community.

Maybe some day I'll have to take the 'Droid plunge myself,, (tho i really LOVE WebOS)

Thanks for listening, and hope to get to know the local "smart dudes" here!

Diane

PS: I'll update my signature tomorow, but the avatar pic is ME, a little foreshadowing of my LOVE of PHONES.. even wayyy back in 1952, when litte 2 year old ME, had that glint in my eye, when I was on a PHONE! HEEHE

Welcome to Android Central!

If you're on windows 7 those drivers usually install on their own. At least, they all do for me... Nexus One, Atrix, Inspire 4G and Aria.

I too have a Pre, got it on day 1 and barely use it... maybe you can help me with tricking my Pre out. ha.

Also... if you're on 2.3.3, try to use ShootMe. I hear some have had success using it without rooting.

Hi Duvee

Ya, the Pre was a cake walk to get into the OS, The SDK was really well done and root access was extremely simple which allowed me to do all kinds of stuff, including overclocking, and just about anything. I just love it.

This one, is really giving me some grief so far..

Both these phones have 2.3.4, so I guess shoot me wont work.

I tried the easiest rooting guide I could find, where all that had be done was save a zip file that allegedly had the su and other stuff on it, to the phone , booting in recovery mode, and seeing a menu for mounting, etc..

Well when I tried to boot to recovery, (Volume down + power), one time I got a bootloader screen, that I did not see any way to either accept or not. I had to do a battery pull, when the phone came back up, I was never again able to boot to anything but the regular normal screen...

btw: what does it mean , saving to phone vs saving to USB?

And all I learned about how to trick the Pre I got from this sites sister forum, precentral.net, some awesome devs and other smart helpful people

Nice to meet ya ;)
