Hi there! I have owned my EVO 4G since Sept '10, but just recently started getting involved in the android forums because my phone has been dragging. After many hours of research on here and other forums, I made the jump and rooted my phone. Since then, I have been very pleased with how it acts and am now looking at different ROMs to install and try out. I haven't taken the step of uninstalling the bloat from my phone, only freezing it because I am still nervous about causing issues and bricking my phone and just doing that has helped in the performance of the phone.
I do have some questions about the different ROMs out there. I have been happy with the factory installed sense for the most part and would like to keep close to that style of ROM if I did change. My questions are this:
There are tons of names that I don't know and would like to know which of the more common ROMs uses the sense format? I think that I like the new ICS style, but would like to know what functions do you gain/lose by changing over to a different ROM?
I see a lot of people talk about kernels, what does changing the kernel do to the phone that could make my phone better or more user friendly?
I use my phone mainly for email, media streaming, calls, texts, and taking photos. I average about 9-12 hours on a single charge most days.
Thanks for any advice or help.
