Re: Home button and external links not working on moto X after recent Android update

I was prompted to update my MotoX yesterday 12/09/15 and wow - what a pain! The home button no longer works to go home and has another completely useless function (Now on Tap?) when it is long held. Might have value for some people but I just want the home button to take me home. I can't find anywhere how to disable or reprogram it.

Also NONE of the external links are working in any of my email programs or Facebook. When I tap on them, most of them open up Chrome but don't actually go to the correct website - Chrome opens to the Google search or the last webpage I was viewing. Copy and paste does work when the website address is there but links from facebook aren't able to be copied.

I have cleared the cache in Recovery mode to no effect. Multiple reboots have not corrected anything. Uninstalling email programs and reinstalling them also did not help.

Hi, welcome to the forums! It could be just a problem with the default apps to complete an action. Which browser did you use to open your links before the update? Have you recently disabled or uninstalled any app? You could try a couple of things. Go to settings - storage - tap on cached data - confirm delete. Also you could reset app preferences in settings - apps - three dots top right. Reboot your phone and see if the problem persists. Tell us how it goes.

I have always used Chrome as the default browser.
I did wipe the cache partitions. Twice now.
I had uninstalled some apps - ones that I had downloaded and no longer use. I cannot even remember which ones they were but the problem as there before and after I did this.
I don't seem to have the ability to "confirm delete" of cached data. The option does not come up.
I reset the app preferences as you suggested.

Nothing has been successful...

This is what I meant by confirm delete. I'll try to do some search later about your problem. I'll let you know what I find.

Another idea. You could download a different browser from the Play Store (Firefox, Dolphin, Opera, it doesn't matter which one). After installed try to open a link from those apps that are giving you problems. You'll be prompted to select a browser, tap on the new one (don't select always). See if the links open without problems.

I did the clear cache data step as you have pictured above. I was looking for a specific "confirm delete" option. My apologies. I also cleared the cache partition in recovery as well a second time. Upon reboot the problem seems to be resolved. I even have faster performance!

Thank you!

Had same problem go to settings. Go to privacy and enable swipe to unlock and then home button will work again

Re: Home button and external links not working on moto X after recent Android update

Omg! Thank you! It works! I don't understand why it stopped working in the first place. Whomever is responsible (Motorola or Android), this update sucks seriously. Not only did my home button not work, my phone freezes up more than it used to especially when I try external links.
