When I'm in Google now it now takes 2 clicks of the home button to close after lolipop update.

To close what? If you want to close an app you use the back button, not the home button. The home button opens the launcher but leaves the app running.

Before lolipop a single press of the home button would take you balk to the home screen from Google now now it takes t presses.

Not sure I paid attention while on kit kat but currently a double tap of the home button is necessary to take me to my "designated desktop home screen." a single simply takes me to a random desktop screen. I believe it was the same on kit kat, but honestly I didn't pay much attention to it then.

Its actually harder than it appears. I make it look easy.
