Home key press to turn off screen

I am not sure if this has been answered however I did search to see if it was and did not see the question.
Stock T-Mobile S5 with Nova launcher.
If I press the home button while the screen is off it comes on to the home screen.
How can I get the screen to turn off if I am at the home screen without having to press the power button. I would like to press the home button to accomplish this with the home button.
Is there a setting that will allow me to do this ?

I'd doubt it.

However, there are several apps which will let you place on icon on your home screen (or, *all* of your home screens) which will power off and lock the device with one tap.

Nova HAS a built in action/gesture for "lock screen". Just set it up, Nova will require admin privileges, and then use that gesture. Double tap, swipe up, etc... works like a charm.

You can even set it to turn off and lock the screen by pressing the HOME button. 1st tap will take you to the main home page, if you tap ON the main page, then the phone locks. Works exactly like you were asking in your OP.

Sounds awesome. I don't use Nova (tried it once, didn't care for it) so I wasn't aware of that feature.

Yup - Nova has a bunch of customizable gestures to do almost limitless operations (open apps, etc..)

Am I incorrect in understanding what happens if I allow Nova to lock the screen with the home button? I read it as if enabled this function will require a pin to unlock. I don't have any security such as a pin or gesture set up and I want to keep it this way.

So I am asking if I set it up with Nova will I have to use a pin, gesture or fingerprint to unlock?

Mine locks and then opens with my fingerprint. I turned off the security, tried it with only SWIPE, and it worked perfectly.

I <3 Nova Launcher. I updated to Marshmallow on Monday, then backed up my settings and did a factory reset. Reinstalled Nova and restored my settings and everything is back exactly where I left it.
