Home screen and battery life...

Curious...

If I used the ADW.Elegant - theme & ADW.Launcher (alternative to Sense) and thus only have two\three home screens (only with icons, no widgets); that should conserve my battery life on my HTC, no?

The number of screens won't affect battery life at all.
What sucks battery is Apps running, for whatever reason they need to.
Sync will cause Apps to run and use battery.
Some Apps will run always and draw battery.
Example: I read of an App that mutes the phone when you put it upside down; neat idea but to do it, it has to run constantly AND has to power the G sensor - apparently it kills battery really fast!

Alternatives to Sense will save battery if the Sense layers are badly written and run more than they need to - or if the new Apps are worse then they might draw more battery!
