alright, fedex truck just left and I have a hero sitting in front of me, well, I hope this isnt how they all are. I searched a couple forums and only saw one mention of a loose trackball and noone else commented on it saying theres was/wasnt like that.

I mean it does roll under your finger so im sure it will do what its supposed to, but I was playing with a G1 last night, and the trackball is SO much better. it stays right where its supposed to while youre rolling it around, doesnt fall, no side to side or top to bottom play. this one flops all over the place inside its little hole. I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the fact that it is also a button because the G1 didnt have this problem.

just seeing if its something I have to deal with or are they not all like this.

(cant wait til this thing is charged to play with it though)

Nope, that device is B.O.A., Borked On Arrival.

Get a replacement. Should only move when you touch it, albeit it is a nice smooth scrolling but nothing that just rolls on its own.

well, I guess I didnt say it right, it does only move when I touch it, but it moves ALOT when compared to a G1 trackball that DOES NOT move aside from obviously rolling. on another forum I have a few replies saying its normal, but I think Im going to the sprint store later to see if I can hold another and see if its the same.

The trackball on mine is kind of "loose" too. It doesn't rattle if you shake the phone or anything, but it is pretty free-rolling with just a tiny bit of pressure. I think it's because it's a button - the spring underneath isn't very stiff, and therefore when you apply pressure to roll it, the ball depresses down into the cavity just a little, which creates a little extra space between the edges of the ball and the hole and makes it feel loose. I think it's normal.
