My phone reaches 104.5 degrees Fahrenheit today to me that seems awfully hot

Do your battery stats show anything using an inordinate amount of battery? Do you have an SD card inserted? If so, unmount and remove it, and see if the overheating persists.

Also, how's your cell signal? Poor signal can cause the phone to work harder to maintain signal, which heats it up.

Were you doing any processor-intensive tasks or heavy browsing? VR maybe? Not sure what you were doing, but at least doing VR, depending on the game, can make your phone piping hot after a while; definitely over 104F.

I had it plugged into my portable Samsung fast charger and wasn't doing anything with it. Currently it's not as hot but that was pretty uncomfortable even through my OtterBox

Fast charging can often generate more heat than regular charging. Cases might also contribute, if they don't dissipate the heat well.

Turn off fast charging and see if it still gets hot. I really wouldn't advice to turn on fast charging and using it regularly. Just use it when you're in a hurry.

If it was fast charging that could be it. I normally just ignore the heat when I know it is from charging (unless it gets to something crazy). 104 is warm but nothing alarming.

What would you consider an alarming temp

120+. I mean if the phone was not doing anything and heating up like that I would be worried but since it was charging you know the cause. I treat them like I do my PC.. If it is doing something then I am not worried. Example -- My graphics card idles at 35 C (give or take) but under games it sits around 75C (normal for video cards). If it did the 75 at idle I would be worried.

Also remember that these devices are 'protected'. If they reach a critical temperature (provided no sensor/internals have been damaged or security protocols bypassed), they'll automatically shut down to prevent damage.

LOL , NOTE 7 has made people wonder how well these automatic safe features really work

I knew that was coming :P hehe But the problem with the Note 7 was different. You can test the S7's temp sensors by using VR and its annoying 'gotta cool down, dude!' message :P

Because the Note 7 didn't have 'overheating' problems. It was a physical problem. They weren't able to give enough allowance for battery expansion, hence explosions.

LOL I know , i know...... The N7 fiasco was completely different. It still makes most people wonder if their phone is too hot or if it will EXPLODE !! Once this N7 deal went goofy, it made a bunch of people start touching and feeling the phones to see if they were hot or if they could feel them getting warmer that they thought it used to get...

My phone always gets hot when on my wireless fast charger. I have no idea what exactly the temperatures are , but it never feels so hot that it alarms me.

This morning I was just looking at my forum and watch the phone go up to 100.9 degrees Fahrenheit it's not plugged into anything

Look at the V20 forum... alot of people were having issues yesterday including me with the phone being hot and the battery not holding a charge. It seems to have effected not just V20 owners but also samsung.

It cooled back down but now the notification screen won't pull down (again). I'm sure it'll come back to life after a short while but this is rather quirky.😑

The S8 cant come fast enough! I just hope its free of major issues.

It will be interesting to see .. There are all these rumors and concepts with no physical button. I am shocked that Samsung would possibly go away from it since they love that home button.. But all in all they are all rumors or "leaks" so no way to tell what is actually true.
