For those who haven't noticed online, there is an unintended consequence of the privacy display technology that many people will not like. That is the display when reading on the phone is noticeable downgrade. I'm not sure if there are people on here that remember the HTC Evo 3D. It was an interesting display technology that made things on your display look 3D. Problem is, it hurt your head if you looked at it long enough. lol Well, I'm afraid the S26 Ultra is similar. There are reports of the display causing headaches and eyestrain. I went to Best Buy to check out reading on the phone and I wouldn't even use the privacy display it's so bad. And I had eye strain even with the privacy mode off. I was going to pre order but I'm very unsure now. I'm going back to Best Buy and spend time comparing my S24U and the S26U. This could be a deal killer. I've added some links below so you can see what I'm talking about. It doesn't sound like a big deal but eye strain, headache or feeling cross eyed from looking at a display is. I nearly felt cross eyed trying to read with the privacy mode on and it was still somewhat noticeable with it off. I encourage people who preordered to go to Best Buy ASAP to see for yourself. Videos are fine. The video is an upgrade. Its the readability in a browser. I didn't notice it when the phone was in the store mode but when opening up chrome to read on it was very noticeable. I don't think this technology is ready for primetime much less the S26 Ultra. And I wish the S26 Ultra had a normal display without the tech.

You definitely have a hate for this phone and you have already said you're not even a Samsung user. Most people if not all people are not going to have privacy turned on 24/7. Most are going to use it for certain apps or notifications or just turn it in temporarily when they want it, you know porn on the bus. Samsung did it right, it's not all or nothing, or it's just all on no option to turn off. You can leave it off period, not even ever use it. I guess this is a good warning for the few that are planning on having it on full time, and if they were they could just select the apps they want it off for reading apps. Just select all apps and then un-select the apps they use for reading to turn it off, just do it opposite.

I myself am not buying the phone just for the privacy screen, I do think it's a nice feature to use for certain things, but never planned on using it full time. The privacy screen is a good option to have and I believe it will catch on with other manufacturers and only improve over time. Give it up to Samsung for at least bringing something new to the table for future phones and improvements.

Talk about bitter....did Samsung kick your dog? Move your cheese? Steal your girlfriend?

We get from your number posts that you don't like Samsung. You admit to not using Samsung phones......so come in the Samsung thread to complain? Dude...get a life and go enjoy it!

More bad news on the display front although it probably will not matter as much as the eye strain issue.
Turns out it's not true 10-bit as they implied.
https://www.digitaltrends.com/phones/an-8-bit-surprise-on-samsungs-biggest-flagship/

Glad I didn't upgrade immediately. I'll wait until the dust settles,

Let's be real, most people if not all would not have even noticed it was a 10 bit screen. It's a small screen, doesn't take much to make it look great. Some people at Samsung event, reps or YouTubers seen 10 bit upscale and ran with it's 10 bit. I haven't seen anything where Samsung directly said it's 10 bit screen. I watched the live unpacked event to see if it was mentioned by Samsung, it was not and they sure would have if it was a 10 bit screen. I am positive people seen 10 bit upscale and assumed screen.

Anyone that pre-ordered still has time to cancel their order, they haven't even taken cancel buttons away yet.

Now with that said, For those that want to be first getting their tradins sent in, this is one year people might want to wait a week and try it out first. Might turn out the 26 is horrible and want to return that instead.

Agreed. Really isn't an issue for me and I guess most people.
But the 10-bit display was mentioned by a few media outlets and YouTube channels, so I suppose Samsung could've clarified if they wanted to before pre orders.

Together with the potentially degraded display quality because of the privacy display mentioned above, I'm not sure if it's worth it for an ultra phone. There's still some other cool features like horizontal lock and improved battery life but not sure that's enough for me, especially since I'll be losing the BT spen functions that I actually use.

I'll wait for other reviews and hopefully it'll be in the stores soon so I can try it myself.

Anyway, just sharing the info as it was in the news .

Agreed. It'll be very helpful once thousands of people get their hands on the phone. For me, the only issue I'd like further clarification on is how the screen looks with privacy completely disabled. I'll very rarely use that feature and, when I do, I won't really care a bit about any screen degradation as it'll only be used for very brief periods of time.
I suspect this will all become much more clear in a week or so.

I've noticed that also, when someone is trying to show how bad it is with privacy screen turned on, or is it grainy even if you just have it set to certain apps or notifications. they really don't go in detail of what it's like with it off, or is it effected with certain perimeters on, is it normal unless those perimeters are activated. All we hear it's grainy with it on, so I'm assuming it's fine unless privacy screen is on.

Now some YouTubers are showing a vertical green line running the length of the display. I hope it's just a fluke on a couple of units. I'll check mine carefully and send it right back if there are tissues.

Every new phone release there are YouTubers that want to be the first to identify some yet unknown flaw or issue with the new device.
It means a great deal of clicks and revenue for them.

I NEVER said I'm not a Samsung user. I have owned every Note except the Note 5 and I've owned the S22U-S25U. I did return the S25U because it was uncomfortable to hold after Samsung copied the old iphone boxy design. I do not have a hate for the S26U. I am disappointed that Samsung kept the maximum storage the same for the 8the year in a row and the battery size the same for the 7th year in a row all while Apple surpasses Samsung in both including a 2TB phone. Samsung used to be ahead of the competition but has been falling behind.

I just posted what other content creators were saying about the eye strain from the new display. I noticed it too when I went to Best Buy. That doesn't mean I hate the phone. I was actually thinking about upgrading from my S24 Ultra because of the new camera, processor and Samsung RCS messages even though I shouldn't because it doesn't fix my problems of being out of storage since the S22 Ultra (My Note 20 Ultra had 1.5TB with SD card). I'm going to go to Best Buy again and give the S26 Ultra another chance. I hope it doesn't make my eyes feel weird again.

I don't get paid but I can confirm what the content creators are saying about eye strain on the new display with the privacy tech.

This time tell us does it do it with privacy screen turned off.

I don't get paid to review phones......but it would make my phone addiction a lot cheaper!

But to be honest here.....this issue is blown out of proportion so much.

IMHO 99% of the people using the phone will not even notice it unless someone points it out to them so they can be mad about it......
