How bad does Always On affect battery life?

I am used to a notification light, this is legit my only issue with the phone as of now so I need to use Always on to at least see the notification visual...How bad of a hit is this generally on battery life?

It's practically unnoticeable as far as I can tell. I've used it for a year on my 2xl and my battery life has been great

I have used that feature for the last 2 to 3 years and have never noticed any big drain

I use AOD all the time and still get great battery life. Keep in mind everyone uses their phone differently so drainage will differ.

I use it all the time also but at night I flip the phone over to turn it off , but never tested without it and now I won't because it doesn't have the led notification light (

It was of negligible impact on my 2 XL but it was sucking 16%+ per day on the 3 XL so I disabled it for now. That's just too much of a drain for me.

I've turned mine off for now but have notifications on and tap to wake.

You still get notified with AOD off but it does go off after several seconds.

Yikes ..did that show up in the battery stats?

Yes it did. I monitored it for a few days and it was in that range every day. It was surprising (and disappointing). Like I said, it barely registered anything on the 2 XL.

Have you tried anything to see if u can correct it ? Yeah it's top on your list. Sometimes a quick reboot can fix issues

I can't recall if I have rebooted recently (which is a good thing, I suppose, since the system is so stable as is). I'll have a go at it and see if that actually doesn't anything to improve the drain.

My Pixel 2 will suck down 2% an hour while I sleep with the AOD on. If I turn it off it's about 0.5% an hour.

That's about the amount of drain I've been seeing overnight on my P3. So I switched off AOD, but I I left on tap to wake and lift to wake. So far it seems to drain much less.

I like AOD more than the small amount of battery it takes to have it. For me it will stay ON.

I don't turn AOD on since I figured why waste the battery if I'm not looking at the phone? The ambient display already has a setting that it turns on when you get a new notification, lift your phone up, or double tap. That's good enough for me. What I do wish is to get the notification light back again. To me that's more useful than AOD.

I'm doing the test right now. As above, my AOD would be the top of the battery list at the end of the day.
But, as I still had 40-50% left when I went to bed, I still charged over night. So at that point it doesn't really matter to me if I'm on 40% with AOD on or maybe 60% with AOD off, since I'll be charging over night anyways.

That's always been my reasoning to. I love the information I get from the AOD at a glance and it's continued to get better. Time, weather, now texts and emails will come across it in snippets so I can see what they are. To me the functionality of the AOD far outweighs the little bit of extra drain it uses and overnight I'm going to charge anyway most of the time.

I have a good battery life as long I do too much clash of clans. Moderate use takes care the all day (8am-10pm)

Well I did an overnight test with AOD off, and for the same amount of time, it cut the rate of drain in half vs having it on. I didn't notice this on my Pixel 2 so I'm thinking there's some bugs to fix or further optimization to be done.
