How can I cast a Chrome tab from my Nexus 7 or desktop computer?

so it seems that i can't use my nexus 7 to cast a chrome tab? and i have to use a laptop or a computer in order to do that?

and if i put the laptop to sleep, i assume that the casting will also be terminated? so i have to leave the laptop on at the same time without the screensaver?

i haven't decided if i want to buy a slimport or a chromecast.

i like the fact that i can watch anything via slimport, but it may damage the tablet's battery in the long run. i dislike the fact that i can't use chromecast to watch everything.

So you can't connect to your Chromecast with your Nexus 7 at all?

The Chrome mobile app does not have Chromecast support yet, that part is correct. From a full browser, casting a movie from Netflix, a playlist from YouTube, etc, it will continue to play if the originating device is turned off. We're testing the closing the laptop on a video played via casting a tab.

there are web sites similar to youtube, so if i want to watch those videos, i must use a laptop.

but once i cast that tab to the tv, i can put the laptop to sleep?

that is my main question.

Yeah that came back negative in the test another ambassador did. Quote, "Just pulled up a video through Chrome, casts the tab then closed the laptop and the video stopped."

That is correct. Tab casting does not transfer the original signal to Chromecast it merely mirrors it so if you shut down the laptop/PC you effectively end the original stream.
