How can I change back to fingerprint password when it asks for backup password on samsung s6 edge?

So my kid tried to unlock my phone with his fingerprint on my Samsung S6 Edge and now it's asking for my backup password, which I can't remember. So is there a way I can go back to fingerprint password without having to reset the whole phone? I've just downloaded a tonne of stuff on it and I don't want to lose anything by doing a factory reset, which I don't even know if it works or not. Is it possible to do that? I really appreciate any help on this.

Thanks people

Google this. There are some processes you have to stop and/or disable in a couple of places but I found out through Google.

Welcome to Android Central!

You should be able to log in to your Google Device Manager account and unlock the phone through there.

Have you tried rebooting the phone? Or just waiting a while? I'm not sure if either will work, just guesses. But I do know (from experience) that if you enter the wrong backup password a couple times it will then ask you for your gmail login & unlock the phone that way. Just make sure that the phone is connected to the internet. Once you unlock with your gmail it will revert your lock back the the "swipe to unlock" & you'll have to go into the settings to change it back to fingerprint. At which time you can set a new backup password since you forgot the old one.
