Checking a CWM Backup works before flashing the new rom

Anyone any idea how to check if the backup that CWM backup produces does in fact work.

I have undertaken backups and restored with some backups but sometimes the backup does not work. The only solution seemingly being to ensure that more than one backup is taken.

I know the ms5 mismatch trick to correct errors after the event but wondered what the route is to verify that your backup will restore the phone prior to actually having to undertake the restore function?

It is a gamble. I have had only a few rare occasions when a backup failed over the years. Best thing to do if your uncertain is restore the backup momentarily before making any changes to verify it does work.

Otherwise I believe its all a gamble when it comes to custom ROMs and restoring backups, etc. Sometimes just like a non rooted device strange things happen beyond our control that cause something to fail or not work as expected.
