How can I connect my Galaxy S5 to my computer via usb?

I can't connect my galaxy s5 to my computer via usb

when I plug it in to the usb port it says device not recognized last device malfunctioned or something like that. I cant figure out how to fix it. any ideas how to get this changed?

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried a different USB cable? Cables can fail. Also make sure you've tried different USB ports in the computer (and don't use a hub).

What kind of computer are you plugging into....PC or Mac? Do you have a desktop manager like Android File Transfer on your computer? Might want to try installing that to see if it fixes the problem.
