How can I download from Google Play movies to my SD storage?

I have an Android smartphone model LG-X165g that will not allow me to download to my SD card even though i have changed my default write disk from Internal Storage to the SD storage. I am trying to download a Google Play Movie. I know my phone internal storage is full but the SD card is empty. Does this has to do with system updates from Google or the phone??

Most likely it is Google Play Movie app that is not letting you choose where to save the file.
This is a common poor design of apps.

Most likely you will need to download the movie to the internal storage, then move it to the SD card, assuming Google Play Movie can read from the SD card.

You have already moved your pictures, videos, music, and documents to the SD card, right?
