UnFortuately, Android System has stopped working

SamSung Gallaxy S6; Lollipop 5.1.1

When I receive a New GMAIL notification.....on the Lock Screen, when I unlock the screen, pull down the Home Pay, Tap on the Notification, the window that opens asks how I want to open the GMail email, there are 2 selections, I select GMAIL, GMAIL Inbox opens find and over top of it I get this Message "UnFortuately, Android System has stopped working". I tap on OK and all is fine. This error message appears to be false because gmail open fine, I can open the message, delete the message, do everything on my phone ....again, I believe this message about the Android System stopping is false.

If, when I get notification of a new Gmail message, instead of accessing it by pulling down the Home screen, I Just use the Gmail Home Page Icon, gmail opens fine, I don't get the error message.

So its only pops up when I access Gmail using the Pull down, selected which App to open it with....that I get, "Unfortunately the Android System has stopped"

I have done a search for the error message, I see plenty similar matches, ie, Unfortunately, the XXX has stopped working but nothing for a complete match with Android System......

Called SamSung, they have no record of this exact issue from other phone customers....

All feedback will be appreciated....

Re: UnFortuately, Android System has stopped working

First, Gmail isn't being affected because it isn't part of Android System. That's why it only does it when you pull down the notification drawer and access it through there.

Somewhere in line of choosing the app though the notification drawer, it's flopping on its self and causes the issue.

Have you tried a reboot?

Now, let's first wipe system cache via recovery mode. Power device off. Hold volume down + home + Power. Will boot to a screen with Android on it, wait 30-45secs and a menu will pop up. Using your volume buttons to navigate up and down, highlight wipe system cache. Using the power button, select the option. It will now wipe your system cache. Note that no personal data is lost. Select reboot system once done.

If that doesn't fix it, you might try to Reflash your stock firmware via Odin to fix any corrupted system data without losing personal data. You could also just opt to do a factory reset.

Hi, did you manage to fix the crash? I would like to know the fix as well. Thanks!
