Contacts from hotmail onto my android phone

Hi All,

This is the first Android phone I have had and I am having all sorts of problems with it.

I cannot add my Hotmail contacts to the phone. I have tried going into accounts and ticking the box, but there is no box. I have then tried exporting from Hotmail to Gmail. The show up in Gmail on the web, but not in my phone. I then look in the settings part and the error message 'sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly' in the sync contacts part.

Next problem is that I have multiple calendars on my Hotmail account, how do I get them on my Android phone.

Third problem is how to I get my calendar appointments to show up on my lock screen?

Thanks

Paul

Re: Contacts from hotmail onto my android phone

Hi there Paul, sorry you're experiencing problems with your device! We'll try to help.

1) If you use Hotmail for all your e-mail, contacts, and calendar needs, then you're better off downloading the Outlook app for Android and let that handle your Hotmail syncing. It recently added Contact and Calendar sync.

2) The GMail Sync can go bonkers if you have contacts with special characters in the data, like smileys. Several users report that once they delete those (or change the names to something 'real') the sync problems disappear. Is this your case?

3) If the sync issues persist with your Google account I'd recommend removing the account and re-adding it.

Re: Contacts from hotmail onto my android phone

Hi SpookDroid,

I have been using the Outlook app, which is great. The issue I have with it is because my contacts are saved in that, when someone texts me their number doesn't come up. Another problem is that I have to go into the app, then the calendar just to view my appointments, that is also the issue for the contacts.

I don't think I have any contacts with special characters. I will try and delete all of my contacts and see if that sorts the sync issue.

Do you know of a way that I can get the calendar to show up on my lock screen?

Thanks

Paul

Re: Contacts from hotmail onto my android phone

It depends on the phone you're using and the Android version you have. If you're using KitKat, you can still put 'widgets' on the lockscreen (if your phone's lockscreen permits it, and if it doesn't, you can install a lockscreen that does, like WidgetLocker). If you're on Lollipop, unfortunately, widgets have been completely removed from the lockscreen, and you can only get notifications there, so if an event reminder shows up, you'll see it there, but not the calendar overview widget.
