How can I get my gmail instant?

On my Droid 2 with auto sync on my gmail messages would come in instantly with a notification. On my thunderbolt even with auto sync on I have to open the gmail app for new messages to appear. what am I doing wrong I can't figure it out

I am having the same issue. Where do I find Notification so I can set this on my phone? Thanks,

Just to double check....

settings...accounts & sync....google...sync gmail (make sure it's checked). this is above and beyond the auto sync checkbox.

When I went in to check that I had that checked, the last time it had synced was around 8pm (it is now 11pm)...

Can only think of two other things. Have you played with/used a power control widget? This has a master sync on/off button. Only other option I can think of is to go into gmail app (through applications in settings) and clear data. Also perhaps uninstall and reinstall gmail app.

I did some google searches - seems to happen to lots of folks for different reasons.
