How Can I get my Phone to play music in my Car using USB

I am having issues getting my phone to play music through my radio in my vehicle.

I have a 2011 Ford Escape and it has the USB plug. I plugged my phone in and it won't do anything.
I have a MOTO X

Can someone please tell me how to get this to work?

Silly question but you have music actually downloaded on the phone?

Use Bluetooth option. I use google play music on my sync system all the time.

Those USB car connections only give you charging on android, you can't control or play music through it

5.0 enabled Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) which allows me to use my phone with my head unit via USB. But your head unit has to be capable to read it. It wont let you use a app for playback. The music has to be stored on the phone otherwise the head unit cant read the files.

I use the 3.5mm audio cable to play music or anything else through my stereo. I use bluetooth audio in my daughters car. The best way for you to use the USB in your car is to put your music on a flash drive and plug that into your cars USB.
