AC Question

Hello all.
I have an original model Kindle Fire HD and am fed up of using the restrictive OS and browser. I'd essentially like to turn it into a speedy, slick tablet for browsing and streaming.
Do you think this is a good idea? Are there any cons? If I proceed, what OS would you recommend and why?
Any tips appreciated or any websites etc.
Many thanks

Do you want to completely convert it or just be able to download and use app from Google Play?

If you like to tinker that's one thing, but I did it and am running CM on it. It's the worst, slowest thing I have ever owned. It crashes, lags, and just doesn't have the hardware to support it. I also love the fact that there is no volume rocker, not. Alas, if you really are still interested, and it is a process, here you go:
