How can I make apps close automatically when I back out of them?

This used to happen on my phone but after a recent update it no longer fully closes the app when I backout of it. How can I fix this????

It's not recommended doing so ON A ROUTINE BASIS

Killing apps automatically runs counter to how Android is designed, and can actually impact overall performance. Unfortunately, too many manufacturers design their firmware to aggressively manage RAM in a misguided attempt to improve battery life: https://dontkillmyapp.com/

I would strongly recommend to let the system manage RAM automatically, and not to worry about keeping your RAM "clean" -- in Android, empty RAM tends to be wasted RAM.
