Hi,

This is my first android device so never rooted before but Towelroot is working on my One M8 GSM if you grab a bit of info from the Sunshine web page, it roots the phone and have checked by a root app. However if you reboot the phone, you loose root and have to run towelroot again. Anyone know how to make it permanent or do you think it's because towelroot isn't properly supported on the One M8?

Thanks in advance

I would say that towelroot doesn't work with the m8. I used it when I had my s4. Stick to the weaksauce and super su method. But then again you're GSM.

HTCdev unlock your phone and flash TWRP recovery. Best method to perm root. If you have any questions on what is stated above, just ask.

Will the method work with Verizon models?

Unfortunately, I believe the Verizon M8 is not supported on HTCdev. Sorry

Is there a way to root and keep the stock recovery? I see you can reflash the stock recovery after but was wondering if there was a way to do it without changing the recovery in the first place? I was hoping to go through as little steps as possible. In the end I decided to unlock the boot loader and s-off using sunshine which has unlocked the bootloader fine.

S-off is the only way to go!!

I've managed it : ) Used sunshine to unlock the boot loader and s-off, then booted the recovery instead of flashing it and now I have rooted with stock boot loader.. Or I think I have anyway as I haven't flashed anything to the device and all rooted apps are working. I would agree, sunshine is worth the £.

Yes. If you are familiar with ADB and Fastboot I can walk you through it.
And if your not familiar with ADB and Fastboot I will walk you through that too. Either way!
