How can I only get snapchat (or other app) status icons and no popups

I apologize if this has been asked, my google fu failed me.

I have a Samsung S20 FE with up to date android 12. I am wanting to get snapchat to not make a popup on the screen and just show a status Icon on the top notification bar. This would apply to any other messaging app too.

For most of those apps, I think there should be a notification style setting, under notification settings for each of the apps, selectable as also pop-up or not. I think you'd also want to check the status bar settings, to make sure that is also for how you want it.

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Notifications​, then select Brief instead of Detailed.
