How can I prevent my screen from turning off on my Droid Turbo

When navigating with Google maps, my screen turns off when time out expires, even when charging from my car power adapter. This is annoying. Is there a way to keep the display on while navigating and charging? 64 gb Droid Turbo. Thanks!

Is this with turn-by-turn navigation? That's the only mode that Maps keeps the screen on. If you're just seeing your location on a map, then the timeout is enforced (and the only way to keep it on is to set timeout to NEVER... not sure if the Turbo has this option though).

I agree that setting navigation on will keep the phone on. Even if you ignore its directions, it will continue to keep the screen on.

One other way is to "become a developer" (i.e., turn on developer options.) From home open settings, tap "about phone", scroll down to "Build number" and tap the field ten times (rolling my eyes with this one - just so dumb that you have to do this...). This will turn on a new category in settings called "developer options". Go in there and there is a check option for "Stay awake" that will keep the phone always on while it is charging. You can toggle that on when you want that functionality and off again when you don't.

Yup. That sounds like what I was looking for. I'l give it a try tonight. Sometimes I like the map on without navigating. This sounds like what I was looking for. Thanks for the quick response, guys. Outstanding.

I use an app called "Wakey" and it works just like the developer option setting - or, for a small purchase prise you can ugrade to Wakey Premium where you can create app pre-sets so that Wakey runs and keeps the screen bright whenever that app is running.

If you don't want the voice, you can mute the directions.

"This will turn on a new category in settings called "developer options".
Just for the record, how do you turn off 'developer options' ?
And is there any ramification of turning them on ... assuming you don't actually mess with any settings?
thx

There is an on-off button at the top of developer options. The only feature I use is stay awake while charging. I suppose if you turn options off, it is the same as not finding it to begin with.

No ramifications even if you modify something, as when you turn developer options off, the settings revert back to their default. If you also don't want to see developer options at all, you can go to the Application Manager, find the SETTINGS entry, and clear data. That (or a factory reset, or receiving an update) should hide Developer Options, not just turn them off.
Here's a bit more from another thread:

How can I keep phone active while on a call. It goes dark. If I'm on speakerphone and want to switch, I can't because its dark and doesn't respond to any buttons. On time I pushed power button and disconnected the call by accident.

From home go into settings / accessibility and make sure that "power button ends call" is turned off. Now you can turn the screen on during a call by pressing power.
