How can I recover pictures I accidentally deleted, do I need to root my device first?

Last night i accidentally deleted my pictures from the gallery. I've been trying since then to recover them, however, every data recovery tool I find says I need to root my device first, and every root program I try to run says it is not compatible with my device. I have the galaxy s5
Samsung SM-G870A
Android 5.0
Kernel vs 3.4
Knox version 2.3
Any help at all would be appreciated. .am I doomed?
