Android Central Question

My new phone has a favorites tray at the bottom, but I didn't realize it was there and I ended up dropping some apps there accidentally. Seems logical that since I dropped them there that I should be able to drag them out of there to make room for apps that I do want there, but it doesn't work that way. When I drag the app out of the favorites tray and drop them onto the home screen it just makes a copy of the app and leaves theoriginal in the tray. I cannot drop new apps in because it says the tray is full, but there is no obvious way to remove the apps that are currently there.
