Please help me remove touchwiz

Hello. The phone is getting a bit old but I still love its camera, screen and S Pen. Also it is quite smooth for my use. One thing I've noticed since I updated something few weeks ago was - it kept rebooting randomly. It starts by lagging a bit and going back to the lock screen which is an indication to me it is going to reboot anytime, and within few minutes it does.

I have a suspicion it is due to the OS update. It is quite probable Samsung is putting bugs in older phones to force people to adopt the newer Note 5 and S7 edges. I am not interested in either of them. I just want my Note 4 working without reboots. Please suggest me a ROM that is easy to install and supports S Pen features. I am ok with losing fingerprint and S health features.

Some more details: The last update Samsung has given in my country was the 5.0.1. I had to download an Aussie ROM for 5.1.1 and that was the first ROM I got to work (tried a few CM 12.1s but I only got repetitive bootloops)

A phone rebooting out of nowhere is definitely abnormal and not something that can be explained with a simple software bug.

Assuming your system is an international model, flash an international ROM and see if that fixes the issue. Worst case scenario is that it is a sign that the hardware might be failing, but I have my doubts.

Thank you for replying! Yes, it is an Indian 910G model and I flashed an Australian Telstra 5.1.1 ROM on it. This is the only 5.1.1 ROM for 910G. I tried other popular ROMs like Kyubi, CMremix but it wouldn't go past the Samsung logo. I am praying it is not a hardware problem as that would be much tougher to solve. The phone still runs like a champ 90% of the time

Have you tried flashing an international ROM? Make sure it works for your device's processor, which is either an Exynos 5420 or Snapdragon 805 depending on the variant.

Don't forget to do a NANDroid in case something goes terribly wrong.

Note that you may lose some bands and features. Worst case scenario, your phone may not boot into the ROM. That's what a NANDroid is for.

Can you also go to security and make sure that the phone not locked by the Samsung account. Unfortunately I don't remember what exactly is the sequence since I run CM12.1 on mine for a while now. Also make sure wipe cache and dalvik cache. Have you installed TWRP and made sure you can boot into the TWRP recovery?

The CF root no longer works well with Lollipop ROMS

Thanks a ton, again. I'll find out about NANDroid. Mine is Snapdragon so I'll just have to make sure the international ROM is for Snapdragon.. it doesn't matter if it is 910F or G? I'll find out

Thank you. It isn't locked by Samsung account. It still syncs and backs up my notes and calendar. How is CM12.1 running on your phone? I haven't done these things before but I want to make this phone last a bit longer.. at least till the Note 6 comes out. The weird thing is this phone runs like magic 90% of the time - 5 hours of screen on time, S pen works great, display is gorgeous.. Then it will suddenly reboot for no(or unknown) reason

I hope it comes alright man really. CM12.1 is fast and quite smooth, the only thing is that you might miss the camera most Touchwiz processing software is miles ahead of AOSP camera and other 3rd party cameras. The Pen works fine for what I need to use if for, which is mainly signing documents and stuff like that.

BTW, if you need to know, you perform a NANDroid backup in the recovery. TWRP should have it listed as "Backup".

Try the 910G ROM since it matches your device's model #

Just wanted to update and thank you guys. It even has the Note 5's writing on the locked screen thing. I think it will easily last till the Note 6. Maybe even longer

I am unfortunate to be on Verizon, so no root possible on retail that is dependable. I use next launcher instead of using touchwiz. I love it have been using it for awhile now. It has all sorts of settings...
