How can I return to an ongoing call when I switched to another app?

When I have an open call and switch to a different app (let's say to calendar) I cannot return to the screen with the open call.
Whenever I push the phone button or go to the open apps and switch to the phone app I always have the dial pad and the green start call button.
I won't get back to the ongoing call, I cannot even end this call.
I still can hear that the connection is open but no return to this active call.

What is wrong?

I have a OnePlus 9 Pro running under Android 12 .

Thanks, Chris

All I can think of right now is to check all permissions are granted for the phone app. Also check that notifications are turned on as there should be a notification in the notification tray while the call is ongoing.

Click on recent apps and then the phone app should show with the live call.

This is what I do.

(also primarily done when my wife calls and asks me a question and then I say "Wait, your phone is nicer than mine. You can look it up, too!" LOL)

When switching to a different app, do you still have the call notification if you swipe down from the status bar?
