How can I root my Alcatel Onetouch?

I have never rooted a phone before and I would like to root mine, however, I attempted to use kingroot and it wouldn't provide root access. My phone is an Alcatel One touch from Straight Talk running 5.1.1. I was wondering what would be my best option?

There are at least 7 Alcatel phones in the OneTouch family, at least 3 used by Straight Talk. So go to XDA Forums, type alcatel onetouch into the search box (upper right) and choose yours. Then search for rooting methods. The way you root a phone depends on the exact model phone and the version of Android it's running.

(And, as a beginner, if you don't actually need root for some reason, I wouldn't try it. Rooting, among other things, immediately voids the warranty. And there's a reason for that - with root, you can turn the phone into a hand warmer with one incorrect command.)
