How can I set my .epub files to open with something other than Google Play Books?

Hello, I tried to do this multiple times, but it won't work. I can set to open directly through the apps themselves (I'm trying to make my .epub files open with FBreader and not Google Play), but every time I try to open a book from my device, it'll go straight to Google Play.

I've already tried to clear defaults from the apps section of the settings, but it says I have no default info connected to Play Books.

I've also tried disabling the app, but when I do that: a) it doesn't stay disabled and b) none of my books will open at all, it'll say that the application wasn't located.

I've even tried setting it up using the Better Open With app.

I've tried searching for the answer myself, but all I could find were forums about Google Play glitching or having sync issues. I have a Kyocera Android version 4.3

Thank you very much for your time.

if you install a new app that will openthat type of file the next time you open it you should get a prompt asking what app you'd like to open it with and the option to set as default.

Go to settings --> apps --> all
Find Google Play Books and open it.
Then click on "Clear Defaults"
The next time you try to open an ePub, it will ask you which app you want to open it with
