how can i stop duplicate song from going onto my nexus 5 with android file transfer

i don't like google play for music takes too long to add songs and i previously had an iPhone i bought the songs on iTunes and I've been putting them on but there is no search or anything to see if duplicates have been added.

You should be able to see your Music directory on the AFT screen. That's one place to check for dupes. It may not all be bunched together - depending on how you have pushed them to the N5.
