How can I stop my battery from draining so fast when using Google maps

My Note 3 battery drains extremely fast WHILE IT IS CHARGING when using Google maps for navigation. I have a 6 hour trip planned and I honestly don't think it'll last for that long. Recently it went down 20% in about 35 minutes.

That sounds like a bad battery. (After all, it's almost 5 years old - most batteries go after about 2 years.) Replace the battery, then don't charge it to more than 80% or let it drop below 40% without charging it.
