How can I suppress Samsung Music from automatically playing over Bluetooth in my car?

For a Note 5.

I already have a music application that works well with my car but a recent update now has Samsung's native music app playing my complete song list automatically when I start my car. Worse, I can't even control forward/backward from my steering wheel skip buttons with Samsung Music thus having to use my phone while driving.

I don't feel comfortable rooting my phone just for this so is there any way to disable it?
