How can I upgrade my VZW Galaxy Tab S to Lollipop without a SIM?

I have a Galaxy Tab S from Verizon but I'm not a Verizon subscriber, so I can't get the thing to upgrade from Kit Kat. Always says the update service is not available. Is there a way to upgrade without the thing registering itself on the VZW network??

Go to the Verizon Tab S developer section at XDA Forums and see if anyone has a file to update from where you are currently. You'll have to do that for every update.

I'm in the same boat now only with Samsung Galaxy S5 and trying to upgrade to Marshmallow. Any more specifics on this one? I've never had to do this before, but still use my S5 on Wi-fi only and would be nice to upgrade to Marshmallow.
