Do u have super user icon???DL wireless tether,an see if ur granted su permission...Power off phone, see if ur s-off??vol down power but..

1. Turn off your phone. Then hold the volume down and power buttons. You will get a white screen and it should say S-OFF at the top.

2. Look in your app drawer for an app called Superuser.

3. Download an app that requires root. When you run the app, it should ask for Superuser permission.

Willing to paypal someone $20 for help

I came from a Palm Pre to the EVO about a month ago. I had hacked my Pre as the method was extremely easy since there was only one WebOS phone, and one method. On Android Central, there seem to be a million moving parts and I don't know enough to get started. A lot of terms and steps in the root guide that appears to be for my build confuse me. I've downloaded the Autoroot 1.9.4.zip and I've downloaded the RUU 3.30 for my current software build. I have done nothing to the phone in the way of previous roots and haven't started with the above mentioned downloads, I've just stored them on my PC.

Here is what I'm proposing, If someone will get on the phone with me and walk me through step by step, I will send them $20 through paypal to compensate them for their time?

Thanks

About to root, need noob help!

So, I've decided i'm going to jump in and root my new evo. I got it a week ago and I've been reading forums constantly, but a few things still confuse me. I think I understand what most things are, i'm mostly just confused about what will work with my phone and what won't. Everything keeps changing on what works with what hboot and which hardware versions and all that and its become very overwhelming. My evo is hardware 0004 and hboot 2.10. From what I think I understand, I can now use unrevoked 3 to root it...right? Does unrevoked use clockworkmod? I think I read something somewhere that recommended amon ra over clockwork?

ok, so what about the 4g keys? These need to be backed up somewhere in case something goes wrong. When/how does this happen? I read how to do it somewhere but it was within a different tutorial sooo I didn't quite get it.

Final question, after I use unrevoked to root. What exactly has happened? Its rooted and what else? From here I need to make a nandroid backup (?)

Thanks for your help! I know these are noob questions and there's all kinds of info everywhere -and i've read it!- but it seems like things change so fast I don't know what will work or what won't or what order to do things. :(

Need help with rooting

I am a new android user so I am not fully sure on everything i need to do. I am fairly proficient with computers and a little about linux so i should be able to understand a little bit.

I have downloaded the unrevoked 3.3 and ran it and it said it finished no errors came up.

So i assume my phone is rooted. how do i find out for sure?

After is determine whether or not my phone is rooted how do i go about removing all the preloaded apps that i do not want?

Plan on rooting tonight and need guidance.

In regards to rooting.... Rooting is rooting, But there are a few ways to do it??? is this correct?

Unrevoked and XDA are two methods of rooting. both accomplish the same thing but just go about it in diffedrent ways ??? that being said...

This is the information from my phone: I plan on rooting tonight and was just courious as to what method would be easiest... and what vesion of the easiest method do i use ?

Android Ver: 2.2

Software: 3.30.651.3

HBOOT: 2.02.0000

Hardware ver: 0004

Thanks in advance.

Once you're rooted you can get Titanium Backup from the Market and uninstall the bloatware that way. Be careful what you remove though.

You may also want to try out custom ROMs which usually have the bloatware already removed and some nice features.

ok cool awesome it worked. Sorry i posted this in the wrong place. I have also found that titanium backup will uninstall the preinstalled apps that i do not want as well.

So my next question is how do i stop some programs that i do want to stop from booting up on start up.

Thank you for the replies. I still had trouble so I searched youtube and found a one click method using unrevoked 3. I don't know if that was a good or bad thimg, but, it got me to the free tethering I was looking for. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I haven't screwed myself.

I rooted last night, ive been reading all day and trying to decide which rom to install. I think I decided to go with the myns warm2.2. My question is there is alot of talk about radios and flashing radios. Does this rom require me to mess with the radios? I have hboot 2.10 ver 4, if this makes a diffrence. I also want to easily go back to stock if something goes sour. TIA
