How can you tell if your cpu is permanently damaged?

It most likely will be boring stock I know since its cooled down my temps are hovering around 32

ya idk. im unrooting now so if it maintains a good temp i might try to root in a few days. if not then im bringing it to verizon. out of curiosity do the apps that monitor cpu temp work on unrooted phones?

well im going to have to rely on battery temp to tell me if it is overheating haha. if i have to bring it back to verizon i need to make sure i delete all of the apks and nandroid backups and other backups otherwise im screwed.

well its a sad.... im officially un-rootted

ok so im unrooted and my temperatures are good finally. i must say, with the official 2.1 update it is pretty fast. id say almost as fast as the roms i have tried out.

Just keep in mind the battery temp can be up to ten degrees cooler than the CPU and that's just the max I've seen today

ya i know. it was weird though a little bit before i unrooted like within like 5 minutes of consistent use it was up to 51 degrees C and the battery was hot too. now it cool, not even warm. Bizz seeing as how you have been rooted for so long, i'd give stock a try and see what you think. it is pretty smooth and not so high maintenance. not saying im going to stay unrooted but it is nice not having to keep an eye on my temps.

I read battery temp is what is crucial - the CPU has a pretty high temp rating.

Anyway, I'm running Pete's rooted stock 2.1 ROM and decided to use his BB .8 kernel over it. Previously I was running Chevy's .8lv 5 slot and then P3's .8lv 7 slot. Both were getting kinda hot. I wasn't sure Bekit's kernels for BB were meant for use with a stock ROM, but was feeling saucy. I definitely read Pete saying that SetCPU wasn't necessary except to set a rating, BTW.

So... the kernel works, Droid is super snappy. BUT I appear to have lost root. The Special Permissions Ninja is still in my draw, and Temp Monitor appears to be working, yet SetCPU, ROM Manager and AdBlock are not - at least not fully in the case of the former two.

This seems strange to me. Why would the ninja still be there?? Please advise.

PS Droid is hot, but it has jumped to 80F here in ATL recently.

I'm back on sense with jakes new kernel temps went down a lot I'm running in the 30s now so I know to pull the speeds back during the day when its hot. Oh yeah I'm running at 1.2 min speed is 550

yeah im starting to spike into the 50c its getting crazy i think its mainly due to me being inside of a 70 something degree house without ac so it has no way to cool down time to see how she acts at stock speeds. and ive tried p3 and bekits kernels both low voltage both 1ghz usually run at 800 or less mhz

I've been having the same issues lately too. My phone constantly and I mean constantly jumps into the low-mid 40's (C). Only way to bring it down is to drop to 400Mhz and putting it into idle. Then I use the phone for a couple minutes and bam there it is again.
I, for one, believe it has to do with SetCPU. My CPU was in the low-mid 30's.
I installed the new SetCPU update and this **** start getting hot as hell.

That makes a hell of a lot more sense. Might be right. Could be SetCPU.

Yea it is. I just downgraded, solved the issue.
Just go to the xda forums and download the one before the latest.

Haha you know what it is, the new version uses CPU Temperature, and the old one used the Battery Temperature.

So the new one is more precise, so what do we do? Allow it not to get around 50 (C) I then?

Yeah I like the new one more but I going to set it to conservative and see if CPU temps drop. Good thing is now when you set the temp profile it goes off the CPU

You have got to be kidding me. I googled the Droid overheating so many times and didn't find anything related. One thing though, after using the official 2.1 release I must say it is pretty fast on its own. Not a fan of the stock app draw or the Max 3 screens so i installed helix launcher (not the 2nd one) and it run almost at the same speeds of any of the roms I have run that were overclocked.

Now I have to see if I'm able to root again. I'm praying that the rumor is not true about not being able to root with the latest firmware update that was pushed out the past few days. The one that so coincidentally came out when I unroot. Just my luck luck. We will see, though after using stock with the official 2.1 it wouldn't be the worst thing.

Stop lying. You know you want root.
Delete unwanted apps, themes, overclock, custom roms, wifi tether.....ect.
You know you want it..................
:p

Haha I do want to root just for customization and skins. Right now that's all I am really losing with stock. I'm really surprised at the speed of stock because I figured it would be significantly slower but it really isn't. If the rumor about not being able to root isn't true, I'd say give it a shot and see what you think.

EDIT::::::::: THE RUMOR IS ONLY A RUMOR!!!!! it is not true and i am psyched. atleast i learned somthing out of all of this and that is knowing how to unroot and that it was easier than i thought. now i have to use the program to revert back to 2.0.1 and hope i dont brick my phone haha. im just going to follow the video. i dont know if ill root today or tomorow or maybe friday seeing as there really isnt a rom out that really catches my attention at the moment but i will do it soon. though soon is such a vague word haha

can someone post the link to the xda thread that goes over the setcpu fix.
