How close is the Nexus 7 screen to the iPad 'retina' display?

For people that have seen both the iPad 3 and the Nexus 7 in person, how close is the Nexus 7 screen to the iPad 3? Are the displays comparable? How does text of desktop versions of websites look on the Nexus 7?

I have the iPad 3. I'm a Google fan to the core, and I don't like apple as a company (in terms of their ethics), but i bought the iPad because, at the time, there was nothing better. I'm not gonna lie, the screen is mind numbingly good. Very very good. However, the Nex 7 has a smaller screen, so the pixel density disparity shouldn't be that great. Regardless, however, the iPad will hands down win in the screen department.

That said, I'm wrestling with myself whether or not I should sell the iPad for the Nexus. I want to support Google and their ecosystem with my wallet. As a student who uses the iPad for PDF textbooks, however, I'm very scared that 7 inches will be too small. Ugh, idk what to do!

The actual PPI numbers don't mean much taken by themselves. You also need to consider how far away a device is from your eyes and if your eyes can make out the subpixels at that distance. For example the iPhone needs a 326 ppi screen to be considered 'retina' because you hold it much closer than a tablet. The iPad 3 is at 264 ppi and is still a retina display because you hold it much farther away. I am thinking you'd hold the Nexus 7 slightly closer since it is smaller than the iPad, but its pixels density is also smaller than the iPad 3 which probably prevents it from being true 'retina' display.

Not if you're using a phone or tablet. For a tablet you would want something close to 264, and for a phone over 300.

I agree 100 %, only problem is whether or not I could give up the 10 inches. If I sell my ipad with its smart cover and buy the nexus, I could make a nice little profit.

I'm more interested in white balance, color temp, and contrast than pixel density. 216PPI should be fine (196PPI is good enough on the Excite 7.7), but the iPad screen is excellent all around. I'm just hoping the Nexus 7 has decent whites that aren't too cold or too warm, which has been my major problem with Android tablets lately.

The 1024x600 screen of the kf and galaxy tab 2 7" were noticeable, but no biggie. I think the nexus 7 screen will be fantastic. I'll be using it in conjunction with my iPad 3

I have the nexus 7 right now and the screen is the perfect size for playing game's the screen has really good display and it has blue tooth the battery losses 10% per hour when witching videos and 15% when playing games and 20% when playing games and music the only thing I don't like is it does not have a rear facing camera I got my for $189 plus a $32 two year
Warranty so if the screen gets crack or the headphone import breaks I can get it fixed for free and they have really awesome keyboard ceases

I have both the N7 and N10. The N10 wins hands down for spreadsheet, writing. OfficesuitePro even does .pdfs. The N10 is currently the best tablet screen available.
