How come MS Excel won't open on my S6 Edge after update to Nougat?

AC Question

Ok, I am not really a noob, but no expert either.

Since the upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat on my Galaxy S6 Egde, MS Excel refuses to open. At first I got a few seconds in, resulting in an error message about sending feedback and all. But that would disappear before I could click it.

Now when I try to open MS Excel, it won't even show more than half a second of splash screen and just terminating without notice.

I have a paid subscription for MS Office 365, so I am getting a little annoyed. MS helpdesk says I should ask for answers at 'the manufacturer of my device'. Like Samsung is going to dive into te issue why MS software sucks. #sarcasm

Any help on the matter would be nice

Welcome to the forum. Sorry you're having problems. Nougat raised compatibility issues with a number of established apps that subsequently had to be upgraded to work properly, or at all. Sounds like what you're seeing. You might go to Settings, Apps, All and find Excel. Do a force stop, then clear catch and clear data. Exit that, reboot and try Excel again. Okay, back to your subscription to 365, do you access Excel online, or is it an installed app? I had assumed installed app, if so you could also be seeing a license issue. Dunno, seems like MS should be helping a lot more as I see more on their side than Samsung. If you have an installed app, check the Play store and make sure your version is up to date.

I was hoping someone would have had the same issue and found a solution for it. But I guess I can't have everything.
To answer your questions regarding the Issue @PJRed2008: I have tried to force stop, clear cache, reboot etc. I have also uninstalled all updates, disabled the app (couldn't uninstall completely) and reinstalled it after a reboot. I access Excel in various ways, but on Android, I only use the app. Which is also up to date, since I have reinstalled it again last night.
MS gave me another solution which I'm trying to postpone to the very last minute. "Set your device back to factory defaults" she said. That is a pain in the a**, and I think the issue should be solved without this last resort.

Thanks for replying back @ElmarN and welcome to the forum as a new member. Sounds like you have done everything I can think of, and I agree, this should not require a reset to fix. If you have files you need to have access to, there are Excel alternatives in the Play store that you may want to look at. You also may want to do some searches in the Apps forum here and see if you can turn up anything for Excel.

Otherwise, hoping someone with the same problem will chime in.

I know about the alternatives. But the issue with (all of) those, is that they fail to behave according to my wishes.
A lot of functions work the same of course, but something as simple as a dropdown-menu only shows in the official MS Office app.

I'll be waiting for someone else with (or without) the same issue to provide me with a fix.
Thanks!

Update on the issue:

In the Word app for android, I found a reset button to reset all MSOffice apps. I wish I never pushed it. Now Word and Powerpoint are just as non responsive as Excel already was. And of course Excel stays the same.

Still no one with the same problem?
