How did I mess up such a straight forward Android install?

I posted this question in the Alpha Install thread but that thread seems to be cold so here it is in my own thread.

So, along with a million other folks I've decided to install Android on my TP. I followed the directions at the beginning of this thread. Everything seemed to go well, I got to the double penguin stage, loaded, restarted to the boot page but no Cygen is an option. I double checked my files, I deleted them all, redownloaded them again, and now when it loads double penguin, it does so for a few seconds then says "restart when ready". Then any button I push is explained in text on the screen. I have to do a hard reset to get it to restart. The good news is that WebOS boots just fine, my "android folder" is still present on the TP, so I'm lost. I had updated my HPTP to the most current software a week ago if that matters? I'm by no means a Developer but can follow directions well and this seemed pretty straight forward install wise to me. I'm obviously missing something.

The only thing that I can think of is that updating to the latest webos was not recommended because it "could" cause install problems. However most folks seem to have got away with it. maybe you were just one of the unlucky few and will have to wait for the next rom update :(

Did you check the MD5 hashes of the install files? For me, two of them were corrupt. I updated my TP to the latest webOS vedsion (3.0.4) before installing cm7.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I found out about that conflict after I'd already updated Web OS. Jblather, you lost me there man. If it's an easy explain then I'm all ears but I'm not a developer. I'd be grateful if you'd guide me here but I'm aware that could take some time and if you'd rather not bother I'd understand.

What he is referring to is that the installation files have an MD5 hash that you can check to make sure the files you are using didn't get corrupted when you downloaded them (the hash values are posted right below the download links in the Rootzwiki post). Google "Check MD5" and you will find everything you need to explain how to check hash values.

I ran into something similar - the ACMEInstall.zip file was corrupt the first time I downloaded. I would say to save time, wipe out all your previous install files from both the TP and you PC, re-download them all and check the MD5 hashes and then start the install over. If that doesn't work you might have something leftover from the previous failures so maybe follow the uninstall instructions and again start over.

Good luck!

I find that Windows sometimes has a hard time downloading files. For instance, ACMEInstall.zip is an 8.5meg+ file. Windows downloaded only 8k for me. I had to use a unix box to download it properly.
