How did my Samsung phone go back to factory reset.

Put it in my pocket when I got it out the screen was black with some small writing at the top. Took it to Verizon store and the girl said it was just pushing buttons by itself . Then a screen came on and said it was back to factory reset. Called Samsung there is nothing they can do. It has to be sent back to the factory to get reset. Not happy this is ridiculous.
