Thankfully, it was only my Samsung Galaxy A50 that I didn't bother to buy a case for. I've only been using it at home but for whatever reason I took it with me to grab Starbucks. I got out and forgot I left the phone on my lap...

:(

Top corners got dinged. I would be crying (and put it up for sale) if this was my iPhone XR or worst Huawei P30 Pro.

This is not the first time either, happened to my OnePlus 7 Pro. It was messed up as it was in a case that OnePlus included but from time to time one corner of the phone slips off so you can guess what happened.

S10e, no glass protector but case. Too slippery without a case. I probably drop a phone 30 times a year,

Back when I had a Nexus 6P, I made the mistake of trying a nice leather-textured stick-on decal (for the grip factor, since that 6P was slippery as the devil) instead of a case. Of course, about a few days after applying the decal, I was sitting at restaurant patio with the phone in my front pants pocket, legs crossed. The phone had been peeking out of the top of my pocket initially, and that position made it slide ... slide ... slide ... then plop, right on the concrete patio floor. Cracked a corner of the glass -- fortunately, not over the actual screen, but it was still aesthetically displeasing. Ultimately took advantage of Nexus Protect and sent it in for a replacement, which at the time ended up being a Pixel XL!

My Note 8 with no screen protector has hit the screen face down at least a dozen times and hasn't cracked yet.

Most common culprit is my headphone cord, really should go wireless one of these days. Haha

last time I dropped the phone it was from a table. fortunately broke the fall with my foot so no damage.

So true, I prefer a case. I rarely drop it but it's in constant use so law of averages applies.
With pro cams I learn the safest place for it is bagged or in your hand. I used my cargo pants pocket as well as and that fails too on occasion :(
If not for the case on it, in 6 months it been shredded:(

I don't drop my phone very much (maybe 5 times ever). Last time was a new Pixel 3 dropped on the sidewalk from about 5 feet. while walking the dog. Fortunately it was in a OBLIQ case with a lip and had a Whitestone Dome applied the day before. No damage at all.

Never used a case until I dropped my iPhone 6+ on ceramic tile. Used a case since then and it has been fine with drops here or there. Only issue was dropping a dumbbell on the 7+ at the gym. Then someone dropped my X facedown at the beach and slid it on something, then put it back in my bag. Found it later with glorious scratches left to right.

Drop and fall are not the same thing, but I can see where the poll is going.

Looking back at my various phones, many fell/slid off of tables and sofas.
One came unhooked from my belt.
One was knocked out of my hand.
None have ever been dropped by me from my hand.

Once had phone in my lap while driving to gym, forgot it was there stepped out of my truck and saw it tumble to the asphalt I cringed. But luckily no damage to phone thanks to UAG an a tempered glass.

Well, when I first come my pixel 3 XL, I had it it has a naked phone which I still love. I accidentally dropped it on bathroom tile thankfully not too hard or too high up. I gently scratched the screen but nothing serious whatsoever. From that point on I put dbrand skin on the back of it and it might know she'll bumper case on besides. that rhino shield bumper case in my opinion I saved my phone a few times. I am OCD in all about keeping my phone scratch free as much as I can and keeping it clean and I've still dropped it with Butterfingers in my garage a couple of times.

Back in January I was at my son's house and my phone was facedown on a table outside. His dog came by swinging his tail like Reggie Jackson up at bat. Down it went in to a concrete patio. At the time I had taken off the screen protector to try a new skin and I think if I hadn't, it might have been prevented. Note 10plus repair was 304.00 including tax. They replace more than just the screen. The outer frame around the phone gets changed out and believe they also change out the battery.

Ouch. Not a bad price though; it's a handful to service.

I've observed the Note 10+ will either face plant when dropped or land on a corner, it prefers the stylist corner.
No joke.
The case I have doesn't have a raised bevel on the sides but has them top and bottom which helps in a face plant... unless there's rocks.

I gently "dropped" my Note 9 into my car's cup holder from literally a half-inch up, and got a hairline fracture that ran the entire length of my glass back. i never went naked after that again.

Gorilla glass 6 has a lot of impact resistance however repeated insults to the same area can cause failures as invisible internal areas of stress are created.

Glass is one of the strangest substances on the planet.
Neither solid or liquid and it obeys some of the laws of hydraulics as well ie an area of pressure can be imposed on an area far away from from the actual point the pressure is being applied, as if a liquid.
It's bizarre.

From a half inch?

yes. no exaggeration. i was super mad. i mean, yes, it's a hard plastic in the cup holder, but it was at that point that i knew i hated glass back phones. i don't like having to baby them. i'm from the generation of nokia 8860's, dropping them and not thinking twice about it.

More than likely it was prestressed. Not even necessarily your doing.
Manufacturing defect or improper handling on the assembly line. Glass is witchy stuff... no joke.
