I have a samsung galaxy J1. I put some of my apps on the sd card when the device memory started to fillup. Under the SD card column, it says the apps are in there, but under amount of storage, it still says the card is empty and the device storage is full. When I tried to update apps, they wouldn't update. What's going on? Are the apps on the card or aren't they?

Welcome to the forums. There may be an error for the tags to show the OS where to look for that data on the card. Since your internal storage is full, that is why you can't update anything.
I would remove anything yo don't need on the phone anymore; pictures, videos, music, etc. Do a reboot and see if that fixes it.
