How do I adjust the volume and brightness during video watching?

adjusting volume and brightness during video watching

own a samsung galaxy s4 phone and have read that when watching a video i should be able to adjust the volume and brightness by touching the left and right sides of the screen (bars should appear that allow me to adjust) when i touch my screen, either side, nothing appears

Welcome to Android Central! That works on 3rd party video players like MX Player (which is one of the best available).

It works on the stock video player as well. Slide your finger up or down on the left side of the screen for brightness and right side for volume and the bars will appear then. I do have an updated version of the video player from the Samsung store (the purple icon).
