assign different tones to different contacts

This is probably a really dumb question...But, I cannot figure out how to assign a different notification tone to different contacts. I have the galaxy S6. Anyone want to help?

Nope, not a dumb question. Open the Contacts app, select a contact, choose Edit from the top right, scroll to the bottom and find the "Ringtone" field to set a ringtone for that contact; or, choose the "Add Another Field" button and on the next screen choose to add the "Message tone" field. I *think* that should get you what you're looking for. :)

That worked perfectly. Thanks SO much for sharing your knowledge. Makes life easier when there are knowledgeable people willing to share. Thanks again!!!

Your answer is exactly how I did it on my Galaxy S5, but now I have the S6 and for some reason the Message tone for each individual reverts to the default message tone. The customized message tone is not working. Do you know of any fixes?

That's the same problem I'm having with my S7 edge. Any ideas on how to fix it? I have the files on the device and not SD and tried restarting it....nothing worked.

Re: assign different tones to different contacts

Create a folder named Ringtones and put all your audio files there

I put all my ringtones in a folder on computer and then used USB cable to just drag the files into the ringtone folder for my ringtones I did the exact same thing only I put the tones in my notification folder. Works like a charm

Anyone know what file format is required? I edited an MP3 file but when I select it as a ringtone the phone says "file format not supported". Not sure if there is a problem because I saved it as a constant bitrate file or some other setting.

Any issues with certain contacts but not with others? Does it depends what file format they are (the sounds that is)?

Re: assign different tones to different contacts

I can assign tones to individual contacts, but ever since the last update to the phone (galaxy S7) I can no longer customize notification tones for my contact groups. Does anyone know why? It's driving me crazy. Almost enough to go *back* to my S5!!!

If this can't be fixed, does anyone know of other contacts apps that allow you to customize contact groups??

That is what I did, and for some reason, it still doesn't work. Do you know why? Or how to fix it?
