Android Central Question

The Oreo update is horrible, as are most of the Samsung updates that get pushed out. The updates always seem to wreck something, they do not seem to be tested properly. I just want to leave the phone they way it is, I am use to it this way and don't want any changes. The update should come with a request screen so we can deny any future updates.

It does come with an "update or wait" screen, but after a number of times telling it to wait, it just updates without asking. And the only way you can stop that is to root and freeze the OTA app.

The problem with that is that you don't continue to get security updates to the old version - they go into the current version. So if some horrible virus comes out, everything on it, your contacts, your credit card info, your bank login, may get sent to the virus developer. (I recently updated my phone and went from 4.4.2 to 8.0.1 - what a shock. But you get used to it.)

You can probably flash Nougat - read [Samsung] How to flash Stock ROM via ODIN. (Back up everything though - flashing a ROM doesn't leave your data.)

I realize you didn't ask about this but I'll just toss it out there. Have you tried wiping the cache partition or resetting the phone? Resetting the phone after a major update isn't a terribly bad idea and may alleviate some or all of your issues.

Agreed. Oreo is terrible. I even factory reset after updating and it was still terrible. I've been very happy since I flashed back to nougat. If you decide to downgrade you can block the Oreo update from ever rearing it's ugly head again by unlocking developer settings and turning off "Auto update system" ... or you could always install package disabler pro and disable system updates that way. The developer setting has been working fine for me since downgrading back to nougat.
