How to bypass LG Tribute activation

I want to test the Tribute by using it as a wifi device only before activating it on Virgin. On the Olympus Slider, it was only necessary to press 'home' to get past activation to the instruments other functions. How does one get past the Tribute's activation process? All help appreciated.

You just have to let it fail. It will attempt a few times and then fail after it does go in to the phone and then put it in Airplane mode really quick. I had to do this with my son's Tribute, once in Airplane mode you can turn on the WifI and stay in Airplane mode. That will keep the cellular data from activating.
