How do I change the stock message look

I have had this phone for a while and haven't thought much about the look of the sms boxes but now I thing of them aa "bleh." So how can I change them.

I tried once using another app but the sms came to both the stock and new app.

You need to turn off the notification settings in the the stock messaging app to avoid duplicates.
